Any Given Session is Gabe Ballard on vocals and guitar, Jesse Woodcock on lead guitar, Troy Sicotte on bass, Charles Neal on drums, and Dayn Wilberding as producer, keys, and sound engineer.
The story is simple. The group has known each other since college. Sicotte and Ballard go as far back as grade school.
In the late 90s, they packed in a small room crammed with drums and bass and guitar amps, with enough high frequency decibels to forever imprint their ear drums. They played for hours upon years together. They went to school, played the local scene, and recorded an album. The project got a little recognition, they connected with other musicians, and they made lasting friendships.
A few years ago, Ballard began playing solo gigs locally. Soon after, Sicotte moved back to Portland from the Bay Area and reached out to his musician friends to come out and play.
What's with the name? It was a group chat. Sicotte put out a group text to his musician friends and asked to join him any given weekend. The group chat was aptly named “Any Given Session". A few of them started getting together. Ballard and Woodcock had been writing songs and joined Sicotte regularly on the weekends. There was a return to creating and a spark to do more.
Wilberding resides in California and adds his artistic touch as a music producer and joins the band live when possible. The newest addition is Portland veteran drummer Charles Neal. Neal is a Berklee school of music grad and past bandmate with Sicotte. Neal brings his experience as a composer, producer, and his impeccable time to anchor the rhythm section.
Music is a part of all of us. The group is compelled to do it and feel at home playing music together. They invite you to watch live shows and enjoy what they have created from the basement, and enjoy as they humbly perform out for friends, long-time supporters, new fans, all of the above.
